Duke of Edinburgh Passes Away
News from London this morning confirmed that Prince Philip, Duke of Ediburgh passed away 'peacefully' at Windsor Castle after a period of illness. Despite this, the colourful Prince, married to HRH Queen Elizabeth since 1947, lived to a commendable age of 99, just a couple of months short of his 100th birthday.
The Duke of Edinburgh, A Brief History
Prince Philip was born on the island of Corfu on 10 June 1921, the son of parents Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark, and Princess Alice, a great granddaughter of Queen Victoria
After initially being educated in France, Philip moved to the UK in 1928 where he attended the Cheam School.
Philip started corresponding with Elizabeth when she was 13 years old, however it would take a further 8 years before the marrigage became a permanent one that last until today....
What Has Been The Response?
An official announcement of the passing has been attached to the gates of Buckingham Palace, London, an official sign that the Queen's 8 day, and the nation's 30 day mourning are to begin.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that Philip, a carriage driver, had steered the Royal Family for many years. Commonwealth nations such as Australia have issued statements recognising the lengthy, and motivated public service duties of the Prince.
No official funeral arrangements have yet been announced, however the Duke's personal wish was for 'no fuss' meaning that arrangements such as lying in State were not to his liking.
